About the Festival

Located in the Tyrolean Alps, Pillusion is an independent international film festival, looking to show a wide variety of documentary and fiction films that reflect each year’s chosen theme. For our second edition (2023), the theme is Awakenings. We look forward to screening short and feature-length from all over the world, which will explore, interpret, and engage with the chosen concept.

The festival is a brainchild of the husband-and-wife filmmaker team, Leo and Marina Decristoforo, and takes place on their family’s historic farm.

Why Are We Doing This?

Because we LOVE movies, of course!

Our goal in establishing this festival is to create a welcoming, collaborative platform for connection and communication for filmmakers in Tyrol and beyond.

The festival will offer workshops, Q&A’s with the filmmakers, and plenty of possibilities for meeting and interaction between the artists and audience members.

Our motivation for organizing the festival is also to improve infrastructure for young filmmakers in Tyrol, especially those who come from the many neighboring towns and villages with no cinema within a 20 mile radius. We hope to increase local exposure to independent, artistic cinema, while providing the filmmakers with a memorable and fun festival experience.

The PILLUSION experience

Festival guests will get to enjoy the beautiful nature, relax in the garden (lovingly tended to by Leo’s parents), and have the uniquely rustic experience of a barn-turned- cinema. If the weather allows, outdoor screenings will also take place.

The cinema features thirty seats, high-quality projection and sound, and plenty of charm! Oh, and did we mention fresh, organic apple juice from our own apple orchard?

For participating filmmakers traveling from afar, we are happy to offer a stay in one of the 4 double guest rooms on the farm, free of charge.
